Neuralink Corporation is a neurotechnology company founded by Elon Musk and others in 2016. The company is working on developing implantable brain–machine interfaces (BMIs) to treat a variety of neurological conditions and to enhance human cognitive abilities. Neuralink’s long-term goal is to create a “symbiosis with artificial intelligence,” by which humans could merge with machines and achieve a level of intelligence beyond what is currently possible. The company has developed a BMI called the N1 sensor, which is a small device that can be implanted in the brain to monitor neural activity and transmit the data wirelessly to a computer. The company is also working on developing a system that would allow a person to control a computer or other device with their thoughts. Neuralink’s research and development efforts are still in the early stages, and it is not yet clear when or if its technologies will be available for commercial use.
